A group of 13 Hoosier furniture makers are recognized by the State as Indiana Artisans. In 2014 that group of makers went on to form the Furniture Guild of Indiana Artisans. They are a diverse group of craftsmen, representing a wide range of styles, located throughout the state.
Starting February 2nd, six members of the Guild will display their finely crafted and functional works of art at the Arts Depot, home of the Art Association of Randolph County, in Union City, Indiana.
The artists are George Abiad (Anderson), Greg Adams (Lapel), Darin Caldwell (Rome), Peter Falk (Cutler), Andy Cole (Russiaville), and Kent Susott (Indianapolis). Each artist’s works will be grouped together in a room setting. To provide ambience, accent pieces such as paintings and pottery from local artists will be incorporated into the displays.
Vicki Vardaman, executive director of the Art Association of Randolph County, mentions that the show came about by her connection with Greg Adams, who is familiar with the regional arts scene. “Greg sold his willow works at our holiday sale. He also goes to Bears Mill. When the furniture group was considering venues, he thought of the Arts Depot!”
Works will be on display through Feb 23rd, during regular Arts Depot hours. But stay tuned to the Arts Depot’s facebook page, as there may be additional weekend hours.
The public is invited to the opening Artist’s reception, with hors d'oeuvres, on Friday, Feb 2nd from 5-8pm.
With support of AARC members and corporate sponsorship provided by Frank Miller Lumber Co, all showings through Feb 23rd are free to the public. Nominal donations will be accepted at the door to support future shows, and the arts in Randolph County.
